Born in 1955 in Williamsburg, Fortune grew up on country music and soon began singing at small venues in and around the city. At the beginning of the ‘80s, The Statler Brothers’ singer Lew DeWitt saw Fortune perform at a ski resort, and approached him about joining the band. DeWitt suffered from Crohn’s disease and needed a temporary replacement. Fortune’s performances with The Statler Brothers were so successful that he became a permanent member in 1982. He would tour and record with the band for more than twenty years.

As a gifted songwriter, Fortune wrote several Statler Brothers songs that became No. 1 hits including “My Only Love,” “Too Much on My Heart” and “Elizabeth.” In 2002 The Statler Brothers disbanded, and Fortune set off on his solo career. He released his debut album When One Door Closes the following year through Audium Entertainment. Fortune’s greatest success came with his 2015 album Hits & Hymns, which was a top ten hit on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.
