Born in 1971 in Springfield, DeFrancesco fell in love with music watching his father play the organ. DeFrancesco began learning the organ himself at age four, and by ten had begun performing at local jazz clubs. As a teenager, the artist won numerous awards including the Philadelphia Jazz Society McCoy Tyner Scholarship and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition.

At sixteen DeFrancesco signed with Columbia Records, releasing his debut album All of Me through the label in 1989. Through the 90s he toured and recorded with Mile Davis, contributing heavily to Davis’ number one hit album Amandla. In 2004 DeFrancesco’s album Falling in Love Again earned a nod for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. To date, the artist has earned three separate Grammy nominations, nine Down Beat Critics Awards and is an inaugural member of the Hammond Hall of Fame.
