Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder is a bluegrass band that was formed in 1997 after Skaggs started his own record label, Skaggs Family Records. They have put out quite a few albums over the years, with more than five of them receiving a Grammy Award. They have also won the title of “Instrumental Group of the Year” multiple times by the International Bluegrass Music Association.

There are six members of Kentucky Thunder that play with Skaggs. There is Russ Carson on banjo; Jake Workman, lead guitar; Dennis Parker, guitar; Jeff Picker, bass; Mike Rogers, rhythm guitar; and Billy Contreras, fiddle. Several of the members also contribute vocals. The band has a solid fanbase, reaching nearly 30,000 listeners every month on Spotify.
