Cheer on the University of Kentucky when you purchase Kentucky football tickets. The University of Kentucky was founded in Lexington and the Wildcats athletics department fields 19 varsity sports teams including the Kentucky football team. The team is a member of the NCAA Division I FBS playing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), which it joined in 1933. Since being established in 1881, the team has a 623-626-44 record. It claimed one NCAA national football championship in 1950. The Wildcats have debuted in 19 bowl games with their last win taking place at the 2019 Belk Bowl, defeating Virginia Tech 37-30.
The Wildcats name came in 1909 after a road victory against the University of Illinois. During a church service following the game, the head of the military department told the crowd that the team fought like wildcats. The name was quickly adopted by the university. The University of Kentucky features three mascots: Blue who is a live bobcat that remains in his habitat due to the animal’s naturally shy nature, a costumed Wildcat that debuted during the 1976 academic year and Scratch a kid-friendly version of the wildcat.
