Born in 1992 in Bregenz, Soltani began learning to play the cello at four years old. By 12 he had begun training under famed conductor Ivan Monighetti at the Basel Music Academy. As a young man, he studied within the Kronberg Academy’s Young Soloist Programme in Germany, continuing his studies at Liechtenstein’s International Music Academy.
In 2013 Soltani won first prize at the Helsinki’s Paulo Cello Competition, repeating the accomplishment at International Cello Competitions in Croatia and Latvia the following year. In 2017 he received the Bernstein Award and the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and Lucerne Festival, respectively.
Soltani then served as principal cellist in Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, where he earned critical acclaim for his rendition of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. At the end of 2017, he signed with Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Classics, through which he released his debut album Home the following year.
