The band's debut studio album, Memoirs of a Murderer, was released in 2014. The lyrics of the King 810 are inspired by their experience growing up in the violence of Flint, Michigan. According to his own account, Mr. Gunn was first arrested when he was nine years old, and it was typical for kids in the area to commit crimes and handle weapons. The band's death metal lyrics were compared to those of the likes of Slipknot, Slayer, and Killswitch Engage. Kerrang! called Gunn's lyrical style "heavy metal poetry" that, when performed live, has a theatrical atmosphere that would "leave venues full of grown men quivering in their boots."

Their off-kilter, polyrhythmic grooves and complicated riffs border on industrial noise, according to Artistdirect writer Rick Florino, who adds that Gunn's lyrics are reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe, Ernest Hemingway, and 2Pac while maintaining a lowbrow attitude; he concludes that their music "truly" represents heavy metal music.
