The promotion was founded by Terry Trebilcock in 1998. The promotion features amateur as well as professional fighters.
KOTC typically holds events in casinos owned by Native American tribes in the United States. Events have also been held in Canada, Australia and Japan. King of the Cage, or KOTC, events are also frequently broadcast as pay-per-view events. KOTC’s main announcer is Pete Trevino.
ProElite bought the promotion in September of 2007. Trebilcock bought the promotion back in 2010 and then partnered with Mark Brunett Productions, who is responsible for the reality competition shows Survivor, Apprentice, Celebrity Apprentice and The Contender to develop the reality competition show Bully Beatdown, which aired for three seasons on MTV, featuring multiple KOTC competitors.
