Formed from a meeting at a local block party, the collective is the result of the creative collision of many different artists. Made up of a number of musical instrument inventors from the Ngwaka neighborhood, performance artists, electronic producer debruit, singer Makara Bianko and his dancers out of the Lingwala neighborhood, the collective is best known for its members' unique talents for recycling everyday items found on their local street and turning the sounds into dance music. Fusing fast rhythms with lo-fi electric sounds, the group has provided a soundtrack for the city’s harsh realities. 

Though faced with a new, sometimes dangerous local scene and political instability, KOKOKO! has taken the best out of all situations and maintained an immense sense of creativity.
