He is the son of world champion gymnast Kurt Thomas. He currently is a member of the bands Royal Coda and Push Over.

Travis became a member of the post-hardcore band Five Minute Ride, releasing the EP Bathroom Walls…Lipstick Secrets in 2003, followed by another EP in 2005, The World Needs Convincing of All It’s Missing. In 2006, he formed the folk group There & Back Again.  

Travis was part of O! the Joy, which released the album Zen Mode in 2008.  He then joined the band Dance Gavin Dance, which released two albums, their self-titled debut in 2008 and 2009’s Happiness. In 2011, he became a member of A Lot Like Birds, which released two studio albums. He also played with the math rock trio Eternity Forever as well as with other bands.
