They started out in 1954, at the request of their local Civitan Club - to add some socialization during Corpus Christi's annual Buccaneer Days celebration. Since then, they have been an integral part of the community and families throughout Southern Texas and surrounding areas.  

Las Doñas is a group of 55 women who every year create the pageantry for Corpus Christi’s annual Buccaneer Days Coronation, which celebrates Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand's 16th-century Spanish court. They do this in order to honor their past as well as the explorer Alonso de Pineda, the man who discovered the Corpus Christi Bay. This annual celebration pays homage to the past, blesses the present and brings inspiration to the future to a whole community of family and friends together to share joy, laughter and entertainment.

This extends past the Coronation, where they participate with other neighborhoods alongside Corpus Christi’s Buccaneer Days illuminated night parade, however, it does not stop there. They also create an amazing exhibit called Robes Display, which features artwork from all over the city showing their remarkably detailed designs on the impeccable gowns and trains set forth.
