By the time she was twenty years old, she made the big move to Nashville, Tennessee where she formed a duo with Skip Eaton called Skip & Linda. During the duo's stint, they were able to release 3 singles that made their way onto the Billboard country charts. Davis went on to perform in a hotel piano bar where she was eventually discovered by record producer Bob Montgomery. 

After releasing a successful single in 1988 on Epic Records and her debut album on Liberty Records, In a Different Light in 1991 Davis joined the touring band of Reba McEntire as a backup singer. This led to the singers' biggest chart success in 1993 when she recorded a duet with McEntire, “Does He Love You” which not only was a number one country hit but also earned her a Grammy award for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. Davis entered the country charts once again in 1996 when the title track off of her album Some Things Are Meant to Be reached #13. 

Navigating the years since with record deals at DreamWorks Records and Kenny Rogers’ Dreamcatcher Records as well multiple independent ventures, Davis has released a number of albums and successful singles. Cementing her legendary status in the genre, she was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009. She joined Kenny Rogers on multiple tours throughout 2013-2017, including his “The Last Gambler’s Deal” tour. Davis also recently has been well known as a part of Hilary Scott & The Scott Family headed by her daughter, Hilary Scott, singer of the well-known country group Lady A. As a member of the family group, Davis earned two more Grammy awards as well as Billboard Music Award for their song “Thy Will”.
