He moved with his family to Medellin and was forced to help support his family by performing in the street, singing on buses and later taking part in competitions in trova, in which he excelled. He was named National Prince of the Trova in 2001.
Florez joined the cast of the radio show La Luciernaga, where he wrote parody lyrics and sang. Over the course of the show, Florez began to create characters that resonated with the show’s audience, including El Onador, Twiterpam and Lentuardo. He also began to get recognition for his impressions of both domestic and international personalities such as Maluma, Juan Manuel Santos, Nicolas Maduro and Faustino Asprilla.
