Born David Brown on September 25, 1985, Lucky Daye developed his melodic skills as a child despite a strict family rule that banned a great deal of music because of their religion. Upon abandoning those teachings, Brown quickly absorbed the R&B masters. As a teenager, he competed on American Idol and although he did not make the top 10, he quickly established himself as a songwriter whose work would be recorded by luminaries such as Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, and Keith Sweat. He worked on his solo material, developing a unique sound that managed to be both retro and modern, and after over a decade in the business finally released his first solo work with the single “Roll Some Mo” in 2018.

His debut album, 2019’s Painted garnered good reviews as well as four Grammy nominations including Best R&B Album. A deluxe edition of Painted, which added “Shoulda” to the tracklist, came out in May of that year.
