The franchise was formed in 1999 and was called the Mankato Mashers at the time. The team’s first few seasons were lackluster, not qualifying for the playoffs for the first time until 2009. The team changed their names to the Moondogs in 2002.
The team finished second in their division, and reached the playoffs for the first time, losing in the Division Finals to the Rochester Honkers. The team returned to the Division Finals in 2011, this time beating the Alexandria Beetles and earning their first trip to the Northwoods League World Series. The Moondogs ended up losing to the Battle Creek Bombers and finished as runners-up.

The Memphis Redbirds played the Durham Bulls in 2018, although Huntington Park is home to the Columbus Clippers. The venues have a seating capacity of 10,000 and 10,100, respectively.
At AutoZone Park, go with sections 100-104 to be seated behind the home plate for the best views of the game. Sections 113-119 and 114-116 are located closest to the outfield.
