The duo performed in local bands as teens before they were allowed to create a remix for the popular dance-punk band Hadouken!. Shortly afterward, the duo formed Maribou State. In 2011, Maribou State debuted their first EP, Habitat, through FatCat Records. From 2011 to 2013, the group released a string of successful EPs, including Olivia, Scarlet Groove, Tongue and Truths. Truths was incredibly well-received by fans and featured vocals from other artists like Holly Walker, Jimi Nxir and Nubiya Brandon. 

In 2015, Maribou State released their debut album, Portraits, however, the group's big break came in 2018 with the release of their second album, Kingdoms in Colour. The album received massive support and peaked at the No. 25 spot on the UK album charts and the No. 5 spot on the UK Record Store charts. In addition, Kingdom in Colour won the Album of the Day award from BBC 6 and received support from other famous artists, including Pete Tong, Nemone, Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac. Maribou State was named one of the Artists of the Year by Mixmag in 2018 and received positive critiques from publications like GQ, Crack Magazine, Complex and NME.
