In 1991, Martin Sexton released his self-produced demo, The Journey, which sold 15,000 copies to his fans. The National Academy of Songwriters awarded him with the Artist of the Year Award in 1994. His mounting success was furthered with his second album, The American, in 1988, his live album, Live at the Fillmore, in 1999, and his fourth album, Wonder Bar, in 2000.

Martin Sexton's rise to stardom grew demand for Martin Sexton tickets, and, in 2001, he released his concert album, Live Wide open. In the early 2000s, Martin Sexton released five more popular albums, including Camp Holiday, Seeds, Solo and Sugar Coat.

Martin Sexton continued to tour throughout the United States and shared the stage with other famous musicians, including Jackson Browne, John Hiatt and Art Garfunkel. He debuted his first EP, Fall Like Rain, in 2012. In 2017, Martin Sexton partnered with Chris Anderson and Boo Reiners to form The Martin Sexton Trio. He released another live album, Live at the Belly Up, that same year. Martin Sexton released his second EP, 2020 Vision, in 2021.
