As a teenager, he served as the drummer of the metalcore band The Sound of Glory, with whom he developed a devoted regional following. In the wake of the band’s breakup in the late 2000s, Kerekes founded the band Citizen for which he would become well-known. 

Citizen quickly earned a reputation for their skillful live performances at events like Bled Fest and the Vans Warped Tour. They rose to national fame, however, through the release of their album Everybody Is Going to Heaven in 2015. Everybody Is Going to Heaven reached the number two position on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart and received widespread critical acclaim. In the years since, the artist has also released solo albums centered around a more melodic, introspective style.
