Both artists have had a prior band and solo careers, with Mick Turner with Dirty Three and Franzmann going under the name of McKisco. Almost all of Mess Esque’s songs were written by Turner and Franzmann. The genres that they play in can be described as pop-rock and indie alternative rock.
