Ironically named after a character from Charles Dicken’s David Copperfield who was renowned for his optimism, this death metal band is anything but. Formed in 2007 in Two Rivers Michigan this band is currently signed to Prosthetic Records, a label focused on heavy and extreme metal. The band has had quite a few lineup changes over the years but has currently two of the original members, Nick “Marv” Gouin on bass and Tyler Lachowicz on drums. Vocalist and guitar player Leighton Thompson joined in 2005 and guitarist Derek DeBruin in 2016. Micawber released their first two EPs, Bloodrunner and The Pilgrum in 2008, and a third EP Hell of Earth in 2010.
Micawber’s first full-length studio album Viral came out in 2011 to some rave fan reviews. Their follow-up album The Gods of Outer Hell was released independently across digital platforms in 2015. In 2018 they released Beyond the Reach of Flame after signing with Prosthetic Records with a follow-up 2019 single “Welcome Home”. The band is a firefly in the death metal camp with a focus on hardcore riffs and thrashing bass lines that audiences can only experience line with Micawber tickets. Their lyrics are about death, murder and satanism combine with a twisted sense of humor that is not for the faint of heart.
