Kasher was born in 1979 in New York but was raised in California. He endured a troubled childhood, as his family lived in poverty and Kasher spent time in and out of various mental health programs as a teenager. He studied theatre in San Francisco before finding a love for stand-up comedy after seeing a childhood friend perform at a local open mic. Kasher then cut his teeth performing at various comedy clubs in and around the Bay Area, moving to Los Angeles in 2008 to pursue comedy more seriously.

Kasher performed at the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival the following year, where he was named “Best of the Fest” and garnered critical acclaim. The performance saw Kasher invited to the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, where he gained his first significant exposure.
