Born in Sacramento in 1986, Knutsen showed a talent f the arts at an early age. She learned to play piano and guitar as a young girl, then learned the drums during her teenage years. Knutsen later studied art and literature at Stanford University, where she met Conte and formed Pomplamoose in 2008.
The following year, the duo uploaded their first songs to YouTube. They quickly found viral success through their folk-rock covers of songs like Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” as well as for their originals like “Hail Mary.” While touring and recording with Pomplamoose, Knutsen also released a handful of successful solo projects. Her 2013 debut solo album How I Knew Her reached the top ten on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.
