Witness how a neighborly dispute hilariously spirals out of control with Native Gardens tickets. This play by Karen Zacarías follows a disagreement between two sets of couples living in a historic D.C. neighborhood. One of the couples is Latinx and includes Pablo, an up-and-coming lawyer, and his pregnant wife, Tania, who is a doctoral candidate. The young couple is excited to start the next chapter of their lives together and the fixer-upper into their dream home. Next door to them is a white couple, Frank and Virginia, who are established in the area. Frank spends his free time in his garden, trying to perfect it in time for a Potomac Horticultural Society competition and winning an award.

While the neighbors start off being amiable with each other, a disagreement is sparked regarding the fence separating their properties and the two households find themselves at war. See how this fight over fences and property lines turns out when you get Native Gardens tickets. The play’s themes focus on subjects like race, class, ageism and privilege with the fence as the epicenter. Zacarías was inspired by a friend who was dealing with a similar situation with their neighbors. Native Gardens also gave her a platform in which to create Latinx characters that are not often seen on the stage.
