Originally from Alexandria, Va., Case started her music career early and was already playing live shows during her teenage years. Case relocated to Vancouver, Canada to study at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, during which time she played drums with a number of local punk groups. This eventually gave way to Case taking part in the project The New Pornographers, which have been an indie-rock mainstay since the release of their first album in 2000. Though Case wrote a few songs that appeared on The New Pornographers’ debut effort, she was also busy writing songs for her own debut entitled The Virginian. Though the album leans country, Case’s voice and songwriting style incorporate elements of indie rock and Americana as well.

Many Neko Case tickets were sold in support of her second album, Furnace Room Lullaby, which was released in the year 2000. This album proved to be a further refinement of Case’s signature style, which would come to be known as “country noir.” The title track to this record was given additional exposure as it was featured on the soundtrack to the Sam Raimi movie The Gift. Case’s 2002 album Blacklisted remains one of the singer/songwriter’s most popular and features  a number of fan-favorite songs including “Deep Red Bells” and “I Wish I Was the Moon.” Another favorite Neko Case album is 2008’s Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, which boasts songs such as “Star Witness” and “Hold On, Hold On.” “Hold On, Hold On” in particular is known to be a very autobiographical song and eschews an abundance of metaphors in exchange for a starkly honest view of Case’s experience. Regardless of which one of Case’s more than six studio albums is your favorite, you’re almost certain to enjoy an evening with the singer/songwriter’s powerful voice and evocative storytelling.
