Her appearance at the South by Southwest Festival later that year greatly increased her exposure, and she earned a nod for the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize.
Before long McKay was touring with high-profile acts like Barenaked Ladies and Alanis Morissette. In 2006 she made her Broadway debut in a production of The Threepenny Opera, for which she earned a Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance. An outspoken activist, the artist is noted for her vocal support of feminism, animal rights and Planned Parenthood.
