Originally the group performed as Strange Agents and The Nelsons around the Los Angeles club scene and in 1986 following the death of their father singer and actor Ricky Nelson, the brothers became the first unsigned band ever to perform on Saturday Night Live.
After landing on the name Nelson, the group released their debut album, After the Rain, in 1990 on DGC Records. The glam rock record was a massive success for the brothers, landing at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and featuring their smash hit single “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection” which was certified gold. After starting their own label, Stone Canyon Records, the group released Silence Is Broken in 1997 containing some of the group's most experimental material on popular tracks like “What About Me?” and more. In 2010 they released Before the Rain, an album full of demos and songs left out of their massive 1990 debut, as well as new material on Lightning Strikes Twice.
