They later released the EP The Bird Who Ate the Rabbit’s Flower and their second album, The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy. Production on the band’s third album began in 1997 but was met with internal change as Bryan Poole left the band. James Husband, Andy Gonzales and Dottie Alexander later joined, marking the start of an evolving roster for the band. of Montreal’s third album, The Gay Parade, was released in 1999 and received critical acclaim.

Shortly after founding member Kevin Barnes began recording alone, and is credited for performing almost all instrumental and vocal tracks alone on the band’s albums The Sunlandic Twins, Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? and Skeletal Lamping.
