With Mexican roots, he sings in both English and Spanish. He was a member of his Catholic church choir. His parents bought him an electric guitar when he was 12. He pawned it for an acoustic guitar and started to play cover songs while watching YouTube videos. His first song, Ugotme was uploaded to Soundcloud in 2017 where it earned 20,000 streams in one day after being placed on the platforms Fresh Finds list. A year later that song would be streamed a total of 15 million times. He released his first album Stereo in 2018 where it received high praise; his second album was released a year later and called Friends. Omar Apollo has had two tours, the Want Tour and the Voyager Tour. One of his first shows was performing at New York University in 2017. He signed with Artists Without A Label (AWAL) after being contacted by John Shanks and his son Dylan over Twitter. That summer he performed at South By Southwest (SXSW) in an artist showcase.
