They have been widely praised by critics for their use of challenging musical elements including blast beats, growled vocals and arpeggios, among others. The members are Jason Keyser, John Longstreth, Mike Flores and Paul Ryan.
The band formed in Topeka in 1997, playing one of their first shows the following year as an opening act for the group Suffocation. Later in 1998, they recorded their demo A Coming Into Existence, which earned them a spot playing the Death Across America Tour alongside high-profile acts like Nile, Gorguts and Oppressor.
In 2000 Origin released their eponymous debut full-length album, which earned universal acclaim for its sophisticated musicianship. The band went on to perform at prominent events like Milwaukee Metalfest and Summer Slaughter. Origin found the most success, however, with their 2007 release Antithesis, which reached the top thirty on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
