Calling all alternative and indie fans to get their Palehound tickets today. Fronted by El Kempner, Palehound is an American alt-rock group that began as a solo project in 2013. Along with vocals, Kempner plays the guitar with Zoe Brecher on drums and Larz Brogan on bass, replacing former members Jesse Weiss and David Khoshtinat. Kempner recorded Palehound’s first EP, Bent Nail, in 2013 with support from members of another rock group, Ava Luna. Not long after that, their debut LP, Dry Food, was released in 2015, based on Kempner’s recent breakup. In a 2015 Pitchfork article by Laura Snapes, she remarks that the album does a great job of capturing the immense effort it takes to get out of the slump of a relationship that has ended. The lead single, ”Cinnamon”, has received more than nine million streams on Spotify.
Since then, Palehound has released three more albums, A Place I’ll Always Go (2017), Black Friday (2019) and Eye On The Bat (2023). Some of their best hits include “Back Of My Hand,” “ The Clutch” and “Stay in the Car.” Kempner’s music never fails to be real and raw, while taking an upbeat attitude on subjects like failed relationships, love, anxiety and more. In a 2023 Billboard article, Kempner remarked on how they hoped that people who hear their music can relate to it veevenen if the lyrics may be specific to their own situations.
