Parmalee was formed in 2001 when members Scott Thomas, Josh McSwain, Matt Thomas and Barry Knox decided to continue the work of their previous band Jerry Thomas and the Thomas Brothers Band. The Thomas brothers’ father, Jerry Thomas, had recently retired. Parmalee released their first EP Daylight in 2002, which attracted the attention of RCA Records. They were invited to record at Water Music Studios and then were promptly offered a publishing deal. The group then released their first full album, Inside, in 2004.

Parmalee’s extensive tours and rapidly growing fanbase saw them collaborate with Nikki Sixx on their 2008 EP Complicated. In 2012 they released their hit song “Musta Had A Good Time,” describing a legendary party in a small town. “Musta Had A Good Time” remains one of their fans’ most beloved songs and one of the group’s most well-known songs generally. Later that year Parmalee was featured as part of Billboard’s Bubbling Under list for new and rising artists. The group’s 2013 single “Carolina” was a number one hit on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and the band continues to tour to a devoted cult following today.
