LaBelle along with Cindy Birdsong, Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx made up the four-piece vocal group. In 1962, the Ordettes signed a record deal with Harold Robinson. He had the group change their name to Patti LaBelle and The Blue Belles. A few of their hit singles include “Danny Boy” and “Down the Aisle.” In 1970, after Birdsong left the group, their music took on a psychedelic soul sound they changed their name to Labelle. Between 1971 and 1976, the vocal trio released three successful albums and a number one hit, “Lady Marmalade.” In 1977, Patti LaBelle began her solo career when she signed with Epic Records.

In 2014, she performed with Aretha Franklin at the Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House concert hosted by President Barack Obama. The iconic R&B singer was honored in 2019 with her own street in Philadelphia, named Patti LaBelle Way.
