Two of the founders were former members of the band, Treblinka, which was a political hardcore band. They released their debut album in 1998, which was titled Explosions in Ward 6. Not long after, the group was featured in a compilation album, 38 Counts of Battery (2000).

The compilation helped the band to gain traction among fans and scored a 9 out of 10-star rating from Chronicles of Chaos. Perhaps one of their most successful albums was Terrifyer (2004), which was rated a 4.5 out of 5 stars from AllMusic. Rolling Stone magazine also ranked the alum No. 88 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.” The album ended up spawning the hit single, “Gravedancer”, which was featured on Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland soundtrack.
