Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Show Tickets
Enjoy an evening of fine music and even finer ballet when you purchase Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre tickets hassle-free at TicketSmarter. The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, or PBT, was founded in 1969 choreographer Nicolas Petrov and art philanthropist Lori Falk met at a show choreographed by Petrov. The two came to the conclusion that a professional ballet company would be a cultural asset for the city of Pittsburgh, PA. Petrov, who had been active in the Pittsburgh dance community for years, discovered much of the talent for the initial PBT lineup through dance programs he had developed at the Pittsburgh Playhouse and Point Park College.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre opened to huge success during its inaugural season, which took place in 1970 through 1971. The company performed The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, which were choreographed by Petrov. The performances often sold out. The success of the company in addition to the connections of the founders paved the way for many dance luminaries to guest star in the performances and give master classes to the dancers.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre tickets only rose in popularity as the company’s stature increased over the years. In the 1980’s, PBT toured the nation and performed across the country, including in New York City. The first ballet rendition of The Great Gatsby was also premiered by PBT. In the 2000’s, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre began to incorporate more contemporary music into its repertoire, performing a string of pieces to the music of legendary songwriters including Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Paul Simon. As of 2020, PBT is home to 30 full-time dancers and performs both in its home city of Pittsburgh and across the United States. Since its inception, the dance company has only continued to stretch its artistic legs and surely will do so into the future.
