The Pioneers are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and are members of the River States Conference (RSC).
Point Park introduced its basketball program in 1967 and recorded its first winning season a few years later in 1971-72 under the direction of longtime coach Jerry Conboy. The Pioneers made their first NAIA Tournament appearance in 1979 and lost by a single point to Henerson State. They returned in 1983 and picked up their first NAIA Tournament victory in 1997 against Lipscomb in Division II. Point Park went on to defeat Claflin and Hawaii Pacific to earn a spot in the semifinals. The journey ended there with a loss to Oklahoma Baptist.
