Porno for Pyros was founded in the early '90s in Los Angeles in the wake of the breakup of the band Jane’s Addiction. They take their name from a reference to the Los Angeles riots which broke out around the time the band was formed. In 1993 they released their self-titled debut album, which became a number three hit on the Billboard 200.
In the years that followed the band developed a devoted cult following, in large part due to their explosive live shows that prominently featured the use of pyrotechnics. In 1996 they released their highly anticipated sophomore album Good God’s Urge, which met with widespread critical acclaim. Porno for Pyros broke up shortly afterward, however, due to DiStefano’s cancer diagnosis. They reunited in the early 2010s, and continue to tour today.
