In the late '90s, Ratmansky’s work as a choreographer began to eclipse his work as a dancer. He became known for his Dreams of Japans and Charms of Mannerism in particular, the former of which earned him the Theatre Union of Russia’s Golden Mask Award. Ratmansky went on to become the first artist in residence with the American Ballet Theatre, and eventually became one of the most highly sought-after choreographers of classical ballet in the world.
