Born in Minneapolis in 1988, Cordova studied literature at the University of Minnesota as a young woman, where she began writing her first songs. Her stage name is a reference to the Castilian nobleman of the same name in Spanish literature. Shortly after graduation, Cordova began releasing music, beginning with the debut album Blueprints, Plans in 2012.
The artist attracted her first serious attention for her 2015 sophomore release, however, Cooling. Cooling enjoyed promotion by NPR, Baeble Music and Paste Magazine. In the years that followed, Cordova continued to grow her following through her popular YouTube channel, where she hosts Sunday Mornings with Reina del Cid. In 2019 she released Morse Code, which again garnered critical acclaim. She has since toured widely with acts like Carson McKee, Joshua Lee Turner and Toni Lindgren.
