They won the 1951 NBA Championship before moving to the Cincinnati area. They have also been in Kansas City and Omaha before landing in Sacramento in the 1980s. While in Kansas City, they were known as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings because they split their season between the two Midwest cities. They are currently the only major professional sports teams located in Sacramento. Their current team colors are purple and black and were adopted in 1994.

The team’s mascot is Slamson the Lion and has been a member of the team since 1997. They have only one national championship, the one they won in 1951 while in Rochester. But they have won three division titles and with the last one coming in 2003.
