The band was formed in 1996 at Dallas’ Christ for the Nations Institute. During their time at the school, the members recorded a four-song demo which got them signed to BEC Recordings. They take their name from the Biblical notion that God rested on Sunday after creating the world.
In 1999 Seventh Day Slumber released their debut album, Matthew Twenty-Five. They would gain the most recognition, however, for their 2005 album Once Upon A Shattered Life. Once Upon A Shattered Life contained their well-known singles “Caroline” and “Oceans from the Rain,” and reached the number one spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers. In 2008 Seventh Day Slumber released a Spanish-language album, Rescatame. Rescatame would win the Dove Award for Spanish Language Album of the Year. In 2018 the band founded their own record label, the Nashville Label Group. They continue to tour today to a devoted cult following.
