Together with Zulu singer Nonhlanhla Wanda, Katz founded the country’s first multiracial youth choir in 1992. She then formed The Peace Train band, which became famous for its tours across the country by train.

Sharon Katz and The Peace Train performed at a slew of Nelson Mandela’s special events following his election as South Africa’s first president in 1994. The ensemble has since performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Duke Ellington Center for the Performing Arts and Disney World.
