Born Blane Muise in Blackheath, in South London, England this soon-to-be DJ, rapper, and singer/songwriter attended the University of Bristol to study practical photography. In 2016 Muise released her first single “Want More” with the label NUXXE. This label was started by Sega Bodega, Coucou Chloe, and Shygirl as a way to produce the music these artists wanted to make without studio interference. In 2017 Muise released two more singles “Msry” and “Nvr” and featured in Bodega’s song “CC”. After quitting her job as a model in 2018, Shygirl dropped her first EP Cruel Practice, with singles like “Gush” and “Nasty.” This album received positive reviews from several critical music outlets.
After working with Arca on the songs “Watch” and “Unconditional” in 2020, Shygirl released her second EP Alias. This album not only received positive reviews but also made the best EPs of 2020 list by MusicNGear. Her singles “Freak” and “Slime” were particularly popular, and audiences can see these songs performed live only with Shygirl tickets. In 2021 Shygirl released her stage performance as a film entitled Blu with songs from Alias and a new single “BDE” that featured the rapper slowthai. She then released a remix of her latest EP before collaborating with Lady Gaga on the remix of “Sour Candy”.
