In 1977, professional conductor Thomas Lewis took the helm. Lewis was recognized nationally for his ability to build orchestras. Highlights of Lewis’ tenure include taking part in a National Public Radio series that showcased metropolitan orchestras as well as being featured on television on the Iowa Public Broadcasting Network’s 1980-1981 Family Concert Series.
