Their eponymous first album would later win a Western Music Award. The group gave a celebrated appearance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2002, where they were awarded the Grand Prize. In 2000 and 2002 Dawson earned an Independent Canadian Music Award for Roots Album of the Year. 

The band’s sophomore effort would win the Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. Dawson also regularly performs as part of the folk duo Zubot & Dawson, whose 2003 album Chicken Scratch won the Juno Award for Roots/Traditional Group Album. The artist has been dubbed Producer of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards three times and has also earned three Canadian Folk Music Awards.
