Twist your hips to the sounds of Latin jazz with Sultans of String tickets. The Sultans of String is a five-piece instrumental band from Canada. They are known for their striking signature sound that combines elements from flamenco, gypsy jazz and mambo music. The members are Chendy Leon, Drew Birston, Eddie Paton, Kevin Laliberte and Chris McKhool.
Sultans of String came together in Toronto, Ontario in 2004. They spent their early years touring small festivals throughout the province, then released their debut album Luna in 2007. The release was a runaway success, earning the group two Ontario Independent Music Awards and a nod for the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Instrumentalist Group.
The following year, Sultans of String won an International Songwriting Competition Award. They released their sophomore album Yalla Yalla shortly afterward, winning the Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Group of the Year as well as a Juno Award nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year. Throughout the rest of the 2000s and into the early 2010s, Sultans of String released a handful of further award-winning albums. Their greatest feat came with Christmas Caravan in 2017, a top ten hit on the Billboard World Music chart.
