Team Dresch was founded by guitarist Donna Dresch in 1993, and the group was heavily influenced by Dresch’s early work contributing to the queercore punk magazines J.D.s and Outpunk.

In 1994 Team Dresch released their debut single “Seven” on the compilation album Rock Stars Kill, which gained significant exposure and led to the band set off on their first series of North American tours. The following year they released their debut album Personal Best through Chainsaw Records. In 1996 they earned effusive praise for their sophomore release Captain My Captain, which addressed themes of gay identity, mental illness and self-esteem.

Despite a brief hiatus beginning in 1999, Team Dresch reunited in 2004 to headline the Homo-a-Go-Go Festival and Outfest. They were featured prominently in the 2017 documentary Queercore: How to Punk a Revolution. The band is an outspoken social activist, often performing at charity events for environmental groups and organizations like Trans Justice Funding Project.
