The club will share Salt Lake City's Delta Center with the NBA's Utah Jazz.

The team was created in April 2024 after the Utah Hockey Club franchise suspended operations. Jazz owner Ryan Smith was granted an expansion franchise by the NHL Board of Governors and acquired the Coyote's players, staff and draft picks. The arrangement avoided an expansion draft. Utah will continue Arizona's minor league affiliations with the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners and ECHL's Allen Americans. 

Utah is expected to announce permanent branding ahead of the 2025-26 season, but had adopted the kit colors rock black, salt white and mountain blue.
