The first Valorant Champions Tour was announced in November 2020 with three tiers: Challengers, Masters and Champions. By the next Spring, VCT drew more than 10,000 teams and a peak viewership of more than 1,000,000 for the Champions grand finals match. Starting in 2023, VCT introduced a new format that splits competitors into three international regions rather than seven. The Americas, EMEA and Pacific each have their own International League that serves as qualification for Masters and Champions. There are 30 partner teams were selected for the International Leagues. Non-partner teams have the opportunity to earn promotion into the International Leagues depending on performance throughout the season.
