See the award-winning musical performed live with Violet tickets. Violet is a late 90s musical by Brian Crawley and Jeanine Tesori, inspired by The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts. The musical follows the journey of a young woman who rides buses from North Carolina to Oklahoma in order to be healed of her disfigurement.

Crawley and Tesori began writing Violet at the 1994 National Music Theater Conference in Waterford, Connecticut. The musical premiered Off-Broadway in 1997, where it was directed by Susan Schulman and starred Lauren Wald and Michael McElroy. Violet would win that year’s Lucille Lortel and Drama Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Musical. In 2014 Violet was revived on Broadway, directed by Leigh Silverman and starring Sutton Foster. Cast members of the Broadway revival released a recording of the musical through PS Classics, with the album reaching the number three spot on Billboard’s Cast Albums chart.

Violet was praised by critics for its blend of musical styles such as gospel, bluegrass and Memphis blues, as well as for its compelling performances. The 2014 production was nominated for four Tony Awards, in particular the award for Best Revival of a Musical. Violet tickets put you in front of the stage to see this celebrated musical yourself.
