In the 2014 season, the Spirit finished fourth and would make their first NWSL Playoff appearance. They also finished fourth in the 2015 season, and Crystal Dunn was awarded the 2015 NWSL Golden Boot Award. In 2018, the Spirit opened their first game at the new Audi Field playing against the Portland Thrones. This match set a record for home attendance with 7,976 fans.
