They were previously known as the Hilltoppers but changed their nickname to the Broncos in 1939. The women’s gymnastics team are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level and compete in the Mid-American Conference.

In 2006 and 2013, the Broncos won the Mid-American Conference championship. In 2013, the MVP for the Broncos in the MAC was Kayla Weber who had a total score of 423.275, she also had the best score for beams with a score of 9.8750.
